The City of Portland is holding off on its single-use plastic bag ban to wait for a similar statewide proposal next year. Senator Mark Hass, a proponent of the bag ban, feels a ban throughout Oregon is the best answer, saying “My biggest issue is that this is a statewide solution, not a piecemeal crazy quilt of measures in different jurisdictions.” If the statewide ban is not successful, the city would then implement its own ban beginning October 2011.
