According to City Councilman Greg Stanton, the city of Phoenix is considering ways to eliminate the use of disposable plastic grocery bags. He is hopeful that switching to reusable bags will be a smooth transition, saying “Almost everyone has included recycling principles into their daily lives. The same thing with the use of plastic bags, we’re just going to eventually have to integrate reusable bags into our lifestyles.” Stanton eventually wants to see disposable bags replaced by reusable bags and paper sacks, but is working with the plastic bag industry and grocery stores to come up with solutions before proposing an outright ban.
